Netherlands Ambassador visit to Southampton
On October 17th 2007 His Excellency Mr Pim Waldeck, Netherlands Ambassador to the Court of St James, London, paid a courtesy visit to Southampton. He was accompanied by his wife, Cordula, and the recently appointed Netherlands Embassy Consul, Mr Peter Matthieu. They were greeted by Mr Jon T Bennett, Honorary Consul for Southampton and area, at the Consulate in Hythe. Williams Shipping Limited very kindly organised a boat trip aboard "Wilann" to view the docks in the morning as the Ambassador has a keen interest in ships having spent some years in the early part of his career in the Royal Netherlands Navy. This was followed by a business luncheon at the Grand Harbour de Vere hotel, the guests included our President, Mr David Tipple, the Port Director, Mr Doug Morrison, General Manager of NXP Semiconductors, Mr Gary Munro, Operations Manager of Westminster Dredging, Mr Arie van den Adel, and Mr Colin Williams, Managing Director of Williams Shipping Limited. The day was rounded off with afternoon tea at the Mayor's parlour, hosted by His Worshipful, Councillor Stephen Barnes-Andrews, before the party returned to London.
